Scream Queens (2015)

Double Bill: Toybox and Vampire Lesbians of Sodom

Scream Queens was a thrilling horror-comedy double feature brought to life by the creative talents of Adams State University Theatre in collaboration with AS&F. The evening started with the delightfully campy and vampy farce Vampire Lesbians of Sodom and followed up with the original spine-tingler, Toybox. These two productions took viewers on different journeys into fear, gender dynamics, and theatrical performance. Despite their differences, both plays share common threads of transformation, glamor, and the allure of the monstrous feminine. The productions were a testament to student innovation and daring design choices, featuring eye-catching costumes, evocative expressionist sets, and dramatic stylized lighting that left a lasting impression.

Staged in the cozy black box theater, both plays captivated audiences with their immersive thrust staging and bold, up-close spectacle—a talented ensemble of actors performed in repertory, seamlessly transitioning between productions. The design thesis shone through in every detail, from the vibrant and trippy decadence of Vampire Lesbians to the intense domestic realism of Toybox. These productions paid a heartfelt tribute to cult cinema, drag artistry, and feminist horror vibes.
