The Outsiders (2014)

Costume & Scenic Design – Adams State University Theatre

Full Production Description:

This iconic American drama required a realistic, period-accurate costume and scenic palette to distinguish Greasers and Socs. The design integrated stylized elements—such as a highway-painted floor, interactive set pieces, and projected narration—to support cinematic staging. Costumes emphasized working-class wear, youth rebellion, and 1960s silhouettes.

  • - Measured and fitted 20+ actors with personalized costume pieces

    - Distressed jeans, boots, and jackets using sandpaper and dye

    - Styled period-appropriate hair and layering for group identity

    - Built modular scenic flats for urban interiors and exteriors

    - Painted highway-style floor and projection-responsive surfaces

    - Coordinated transitions between domestic scenes and street fights

  • - Combined cinematic motifs with live theatre environment using projection and elevated blocking

    - Used costume and set integration to express belonging, division, and personal transformation

    - Created a layered aesthetic that allowed realism and stylization to coexist across flashbacks and monologues
