For Nightmares and Swizzle Sticks (2012)

Scenic Design – Double Bill: The Margins & For Whom the Southern Belle Tolls

Full Production Description:

A two-play showcase that merged absurdist and psychological themes. Scenic design required a functional, surrealist living space for Durang’s parody and a claustrophobic study environment for Skeele’s thriller. Unified design themes included decaying wallpaper, symbolic props, and lighting-integrated set pieces.

  • - Painted and aged wallpaper flats for Southern Gothic realism

    - Built transitional props shared across both plays

    - Coordinated with lighting team for moody glow zones

    - Managed back-to-back cue scripting and scenic shifts

  • - Practiced contrasting design tone within a shared scenic environment

    - Balanced broad comedy and eerie tension through visual metaphor

    - Developed show-specific labeling for quick prop resets
